Friends, Drives and Shows
I visited San Diego Jaguar Club show on August 1, 1999. The white one was 100 points car, US
National Champion from several years. Trailer Queen, I guess. I liked more
the red one. I think the show is 1st weekend of August every year,
worth of visit if you are nearby.
Jeff Warner (San Antonio, TX) and Ken Wallace (San Diego, CA) visited me March 13th,
2000 while I was still living in San Diego and had just purchased my Mk2. Ken
came in his Mk2, Jeff came by flying/rental car. We checked my Mk2 and compared
it to Ken's car and watched a video about making and test-driving a Mk2 in
Jaguar factory during 1960s. Nice to meet you guys, and thanks for the parts,
Jeff. 
My brother saw an Mk2 in
Oulu (my hometown) streets and took the license plate number. I tracked down the
owner Teemu and went to see the car. As it was winter, it was stored in garage,
so we did not drive on it, just admired and I took some photos to guide me in my
car's restoration. This one is restored by Jaguar Finland, it is 1964 3.8L
automat. In same garage we also saw a red Mk2. 
City of Oulu has 'Oulu Days' on 1st weekend of September
each year and one of the events is old cars convoy from city center to car
museum, everything from T-Ford to an old bus. This was the first time I
participated with a car, after being watching the convoy several years from
audience. There were only some 15 cars, maybe time was too late for those who
have only 30 day insurance and had spent all days during very warm and nice
summer. In front of my car is 1973 Series 1 XJ6 with RHD steering (i.e. UK
import). 
I visited London Classic Motor Show on
March 15th, 2003. Jaguar Enthusiasts Club had four Jags on show: 150, XJ, Mk2
and E-type. All in Old English White. Great view! The red one is V-12 XJ Coupe
in better than new condition. I also met Jag-lovers Saloons listers Öystein and
his wife Päivi from Norway and Brian from OR, USA.
1st of May, "Vappu", is Labor Day / Students day / general spring
celebration day in Finland. One of the events is old cars convoy from city
center to car museum.
The new S-type is not mine, as you might have judged from the German license
plates. I saw it parked near the office and parked mine next to it for
comparison picture. Grand-grand-grand-newphew meets it's ancestor, 40 years in
between. Nice car, but doesn't have even leaper... :)
While vacationing in San Diego, California, I visited Ken
Wallace and saw his Mk2. I met Ken already 3 years ago when I was living in San
Diego and had just bought my Mk2. Ken's Mk2 was temporarily off from roads, but
he uses it usually as a daily driver.
We tried to arrange a meet with Oulu and vicinity Jaguar drivers, but only myself from Oulu showed up. Luckily three other Jaguars from vicinity came.
While on vacation in Switzerland, I saw start of British Classic Cars Rally. Some 80 Rollses, 40 Jaguars, 20 Astons etc. Couple of Mk2's also.
While vacationing in Zurich, I met a fellow Jag-lovers lister Andrew and his friend Robert, who's Mk2 I had an opportunity to check and drive. This was only Mk2 except my own which I have ever driven, so I had a good chance for comparison, how Mk2 should run! I think I have still work on mine... Actually, inspired by Robert's Mk2, I adjusted carbs and voltage regulator when back in home and got better run/idle and charging.
I arranged a get together for northern Finland Jaguar/Daimler drivers in Hailuoto, and island near Oulu. We managed to get 108 cylinders present! Even couple cars from Sweden.
I visited another get together for northern Finland Jaguar/Daimler drivers in Tornio and we also drove to Sweden. Half of the participants were from Sweden.
Swedish Jaguar Club Northern Section arranged a get together drive and invited Finns to join. My longest trip with Ms.Moneypit so far, 530km (330miles), car was faultless. Ms.Moneypit second from last in the picture.
